Sometimes, I wish I could just let him go and fly free...He sits in this window sometimes, and I swear, he's happier gazing out of it, than he is being with me.
In bird keeping, no matter how much time the bird spends outside of it's cage, there is a certain level of guilt I feel in keeping him anyway.
awww, poor birdy.
Wants to go outside and fly away, far far away.
Aw, darn.
lol.

Too bad he's bad at flying...I'd be surprised if he made it more than a football field.
Even then, he'd probably be silly enough to turn around and fly back.
ok, it's an illusion that he is actually UNhappy. Even tho he looks like he's thinking something, I don't think he's capable of that. It's just a natural urge to be free, like wanting to eat. We all feel it, whether it be longing for dream vacation we can't afford, an unrequited love, pizza to a dieter.
If he was in the rainforest he would be on alert for predators. right?
I have mixed feeling about 'exotic' pets. I have a turtle and I feel this way too. It's unnatural to have a flying or swimming animal captive. He has the best home I can provide, but....? It is a result of my own selfishness that I have him. I feel like I have helped fuel the demand by getting him... something I don't really believe in. I did the same with my golden retreiver. Our second dog was from a shelter. I am going to stick to mixed breed homeless cats and dogs should I live long enough to choose to commit to another pet.
That is true. He would be in danger and more alert to that fact all the more in the wild...
I just wish I could give him a companion. I think that would make him the happiest bird ever.
I see what you mean about that being natural though. He wouldn't have a clue what to do once he got out there. He probably wouldn't make it long. Finding food is no peice of cake...anywhere.
If only it were more common to find birds for actual adoption.
